Colourful Sirens

Bright cheerful colours for a change for a/w 09 by Kate Spade. I'd love to say all the above looks would suit me but I'm not even the colourful tights sort of person, let alone the polka dot skirt and zebra striped coat. My sister is more likely to wear the above clothes, since she and many other people can pull off orange tights and not look like they got dressed in the dark. Kate Spade's a/w 09 lookbook is inspirational for people who feel like getting out of the generic dark colours for winter and stand out above the crowd at the bus stop. I think I'm going to stick to my comfort zone, though I have been inspired.

Edit: I have to mention that there is this amazing silk polka dot blouse I can't stop eyeing.

Imitation

I don't If anyone else has seen the above drawings by Lauren who has a blog entitled Brids On The Wire, but I love the detail, the way in which she has drawn them and the images themselves. The first image on the left, I assume is entitled Yokoo dots, is based "on the photo's and knits of Yokoo." The secon image on right, I assume is entitled Yokoo hats and is based on the same concept as that of Yokoo dots. Fortunately, her talent isn't going to waste as she is studying illustration just like my sister, and I can only wish I had just as much talent as either of them. 

How amazing does Arvida look?! I really like her 60s look, and her look in general. You rarely see photographers who are equally as good behind the camera as they are infront of it.

Nothing else compares

The above images are a few inspirational images for this winter; as you can tell I'm currently inspired by the comfortable layered look, along with the formal blazer and tailored trousers look. I also like my variations of browns in the winter hence the first three images from Isabel Marant. The rest of the images are from various Vogue issues and the top right hand image is a photograph taken by The Sartorialist.

Finishing School

What makes fashion amazing is how it can reinvigorate and reinvent traditional, classic looks. It is this element of fashion that keeps its' very nature alive and viable to the modern male and female 'dandy'. The above looks are from Rag & Bone's a/w 09 collection, for the women's line there is a subtle androgynous feel to the looks, which compliments the formal, refined look of women from finishing schools i.e. image one. In the mens wear line, I like the use of rope as a necklace which cleverly ties up the whole look of the mixture of casual outerwear and formal wear. I have to also state that my main inspiration for this post was an interesting article in Vanity Fair  about Miss Porter's School.

I wasn't lying when I said I'm going for a more conservative look; I've become more drawn to the beauty of simplicity. I feel my style has progressed, and I guess that's the true beauty of fashion, or else it would get boring. For winter my number one rule is warmth before style and comfort before warmth.  Can I also say that I've wanted the above Burberry bag from the moment I saw the Emma Watson campaign. The jumper by Dres Van Noten looks itchy but really comfortable, it definitely ticks all the boxes for winter looks.

Fashions Evil Queen

My must-see-list of films is ever growing, and it doesn't help that I'm watching films not even on the list such as Wall-E which is heart achingly adorable and funny. However, this entry is dedicated to Ms. Wintour and her documentary feature film entilted 'The September Issue' which Time Magazine cleverly entitled 'The September Issue: Humanizing the Devil'. I have bumped this film up to the top of my must-see-list, but it hasn't even been released in the US (Sept 11th 09) let alone the UK! I have to also thank Mike, blogger of White Blank Page, for telling me about this film; I have to admit Mike is more fashion forward than me hence the knowledge of the above film.

Today, I just got back from an eventful, cold camping adventure at a festival. It was fun at times, particularly when the sun came out which was sometimes achingly too brief but I survived. Must listen to Foreign Slippers, Foy Vance and Peggy sue.

My first post about i-D magazine; I remember when i-D was a big deal in my world, but now I just bat an eyelid when the next edition comes out. Though I have to say one of my favourite images from my short infatuation with the magazine is the one above of Cecilia Chancellor. Regular readers should already know how much I love the combination of casualness and sophistication. I have the Converse and the baggy trousers that sit on my waist like hers, but I just need the light silk like shirt/blouse. The image looks a bit like a Gap campaign, which isn't bad, I love how the colours all compliment each other.
