we will become silhouettes

I really like the above items from Urban Outfitters. It's very much in keeping with the spring/summer 2010 trends.

Sometime not so far from now I'll post my inspiration for s/s '10.

Is there an official name yet for this century?

We need not think alike to love alike.

I've got too many burgundy coloured items; from scarfs to socks to dresses, it is beyond bizarre how I became hooked to that one particular colour. I think my new colour is grey, and probably navy blue again.

The bag with the four zips is a clutch bag from Topshop, here.

Have a great weekend, I'm sure you deserve it!

The time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.

Remember I did a post about searching for practical, nice shoes; here and here. Well, I found them in River Island, pictured above separately, what do you think? I was planning on getting Gap style boots like the ones Kiera Knightley has above.

I need to get new jeans now :/  to go with my new boots :)

I like Natalie and Claudia Schiffer's jeans, they fit them perfectly well.

A song is anything that can walk by itself.

"Throw my ticket out the window,
Throw my suitcase out there, too,
Throw my troubles out the door,
I don't need them any more
'Cause tonight I'll be staying here with you."

I'm now infatuated with Bob Dylan, I watched the film, I'm Not There, a year ago;
so I don't really know why, apart from the fact his music is amazing!

Love of beauty is taste, the creation of beauty is art.

I normally find black and white images to be creepy; mostly because back in the era they were taken in, it was predominately frowned upon for women, in particular, to smile. I'm in love with this image, it's just so candid and glamorous, could you imagine people going out to do something mundane dressed like this? I also think more men should wear trilby hats, like Frank Sinatra. :)

Annabelle and Donald

I saw the fall 2009 Ronson campaign on another blog; and I thought I would post my favourite. Charlotte Ronson's video lookbooks are always romantically sweet and light hearted; and the music is always beautiful.

For this video, the music is surprisingly by Carla Bruni entitled L'amour.

I'm lost in your style, followed by your eyes.

Don't be fooled by his disheveled good looks, or his charming smile; his truly a dedicated follower of fashion.

Followed closely after black goes with everything; never underestimate an amazing pair of black heels.

My lifestyle is not that of choice.

Let the story depict the character, from beginning to end.

Let the style depict the wearer, from bliss to sadness.

Style speaks in so many beautiful and intriguing languages, that it makes me feel sorry for people who misunderstand it, or are even ignorant to it.

Je t'aime

There is a film now out about Serge Gainsbourg entitled Gainsbourg (Vie Héroïque) it's definitely a film that I'm intrigued to watch, mostly to know the story behind one of France's most famous musicians, who captured the hearts of many. There is a major drawback for those of you, like me, who live in the UK or the US; there is no screening, so we'll just have to wait for it to come out on dvd.

Interesting and really tragic fact: The woman who plays Jane Birkin, Lucy Gordon, is English and could not speak French before the film; she got the role out of hundreds of women. The tragic element is that she ended her life before the release of the film.

The woman sitting on the piano in the first image is suppose to be Brigitte Bardot.

Summer on the Westhill

I can't wait for summer, or spring actually! I'm starting to see the sun out more than it has been in the past few months and it's exciting.
Is it too early to start listening to summer songs?

Double Indemnity (1944)

I like looking back to see how fashion and style has evolved; regardless of the war the 1940s was quite a glamorous era for fashion followers. Though most of the clothing was designed in a structured, formal manner reflecting the values and "male type jobs" women were obliged to under take. Dita Von Teese is the modern day iconic interpreter of this era, and it's women like her that make me appreciate, even more so, the fashion and style of by-gone eras.

Relax

Have a great weekend!

La Belle

Today was a hectic, drama type day; but once I was alone I decided to visit a few shops that I had vowed not to venture in until my coursework was done, one of them being Zara. Zara are currently having an amazing sale with more than 50% off some really good clothes; I've currently got my eyes on a coat/blazer that I tried on and fell in love with, but I'm not a 100% sure If I need it. Last year, in October I saw the most amazing burgundy coloured dress, with subtle shoulder pads; the dress felt like it was made from a soft wool material and I wanted it, but the only down side was it was £50, and I was still tempted to buy it. I saw that same exact dress in Zara today for £13 and it seemed to be the only one of it's kind in the store, and I bought it hence the image above on the left. The dress is above knee length and looks quite formal and sophisticated; I'm thinking of wearing it to a birthday party tomorrow.

I'm currently craving Ferragamo ballet style shoes.

French Vogue provide the best inspiration for that classic, empowering look. They manage to reinvent it, so you can never get tired of it; Kate Moss seems to be trying to emulate this look more so as she gets older, but somehow it comes across too conservative for her. Charlotte Gainsbourg is the best example of someone who pulls off this look in a casual way.

The make up is so perfectly re-inventive, subtle yet vibrant with character; and the photographer, Mark Segal, does an amazing job in transferring this into picture. The model is Kim Noorda, my 2009 favourite model.

Sunsets are amazing; I just get lost in the clouds and colours.

Busy times require a clear mind.

H&M Spring

My favourite from the above has to be the collarless jacket with the double zips. I'm really not sure about the black collarless blazer, but I do like how different it is.

I don't have enough warm clothes to cover this extremely cold climate I'm currently living in; my toes are currently cold. :/

Winter Melodies

Yesterday I went to see In Fields play live. In Fields is my twin sister's anti-folk band; anti-folk? Don't ask. I was looking forward to it all week and then on the actual day I felt really bad that I wasn't in the mood of leaving the comfort of my warm home and my poor excuse of coursework alone. I reluctantly got ready to see them perform, again, already knowing what to expect; from the songs they would play to the way it would be played and sung. From the previous live performances I had seen of the band, they seemed to lack the charisma and energy you would expect from an up and coming artist eager to charm and amaze an audience of 1 or 1000. Now I become bias; I always knew the band were so much better than their live performances to the point it was frustrating to see them do just a good performance; though I did think for having been on the live circuit for such an insignificant amount of time, I equally viewed their good performance as signs of a talented collection of people, because many artists take years, go through many reformations of band members, and many live performances to reach the recognition of a good performance; good variety and style of songs and band presence. Yesterday, I finally saw what I would call their best performance yet; the whole band had so much confidence and energy, particularly as the audience was dominated by friends and family, this reflected in their music; from the small talk with the audience to the loud perfectly played instruments and soulful vocals. I'm very proud of how far they have come, and they clearly now show signs that they're ready for the world regardless of whether it's ready for them.

Jeune Homme

I like everything about this editorial spread; the photography, the styling and the model.

Diamonds and Pearls

I've always seen Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince from The Kills, as having an incredible, inherent sense of style. No matter what hideous coloured garment either one is wearing, because most the time they look like they grab the nearest garment to them but they always manage to pull it off with the couldn't careless rock 'n' roll look; something so many artists and people try but failure.

I'd love to dive into Alison Mosshart's wardrobe because she has some pretty cool clothes and shoes. After getting a nice pair of shoe boots from COS, I'm on the look out for something equally cool but more practical for daily use.

"I am a golden God!"

I've been hopelessly obsessed with this film, Almost Famous, ever since I saw it last year. I think I've now seen it around six times, and I can't get enough of it. I don't know where to start in explaining why I love this film so in short snippets; the acting, the music and the soul.

"The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what we share with someone else when we're uncool." - Lester Bangs

"Look at this: an entire generation of Cinderellas and there's no glass slipper. " - Elaine Miller

"Ladies and Gentelmen! The evening is over. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we'll see you all again in 1974. Good evening! " - Dick Roswell

There was more snow this winter; not quite picturesque but still beautiful.

Missoni Adventures

Missoni fall 2010 ad campaign; I like the colours of the clothes and the loose layering style. I especially like these images because the models are sitting in the back of an open moving vehicle; and they make it seem glamorous and fun.

Thank-you to all my 09 readers, especially those who stuck through my blog through most of its existence. :)

Happy New Year

I made no resolutions for the New Year.  The habit of making plans, of criticizing, sanctioning and molding my life, is too much of a daily event for me.

Anaïs Nin

I completely agree with Anaïs Nin; I'm revolting against the tradition of new years resolutions. Whose with me? If I could swirl my make believe wand and grant you all a perfect 2010, I would do it right now. Though we all need mistakes and challenges in our life to keep us sane, give us inspiration and provide us with the necessary wisdom that will make us better people for it, so let's raise our invisible glasses to the trails and tribulations 2010 has to offer. :)
