My view is that happiness is a fleeting emotion that is over-glorified. Call me a cynic but this over-glorified emotion works wonders for consumerism. On the right-hand side of my blog I've added a beautiful quote by Arthur Schopenhauer who, according to Alain De Botton, is one of the greatest pessimists in the history of philosophy. I think the quote helps bring a sense of clarity (or reality) to the fashion element of my blog.

I'll now leave you to ponder on Brad Pitt's words and absorb Schopenhauer's words.

Fashionable men can look like high maintenance depending on your preference on the degrees of fashionable a man can go. My preference is deemed as "picky" according to my sister! I just don't like guys who wear nothing but Topman clothes; I don't like most male hipsters; I don't like skinny jeans on guys; I don't like guys who look like they've copied a celebrity (I see a lot of JLS lookalikes); I don't like guys who wear nothing but Jack Wills clothes...I could go on but I sound shallow! :) But, I like difference, originality; someone who will mix things up and not look like he's trying to impress anyone but himself: is that too much to ask for? Basically, most the men I find fashionably attractive tend to be a few years older than me and sometimes a lot older. I like Olivia Palmero's boyfriend's style and Brad Pitt's current style...

I recently purchased The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain De Botton: hence the above quotes. There was a documentary by De Botton on this particular book on channel 4. I like how he makes ancient philosophy more relatable to present day society; and his books are always written in an easy, light-hearted and accessible way. The only other book I've read by him is How Proust Can Change Your Life: which was interesting. De Botton has just recently published a book entitled: Religion for Atheists (which is something I don't have any interest in reading since I don't consider myself to be an atheist). You maybe interested to know that on his Twitter page he writes interesting and inspiring short aphorisms.

If I was to see somebody dressed like the people in the above Ralph Lauren clip, I would: a) despise their impeccable attire; b) despise their confidence to dress in a flamboyant outdated manner; and c) despise myself for despising them. :)

Honestly, I personally love to see people dressed well but for me originality is what makes or breaks a look. I've seen street style looks of people who amazingly look like they've stepped out from another era but at the same time they wouldn't look effortless as they may have looked within that particular time; or they border on appearing contrived.

...on a more lighter and funnier note, I was reading the New York Times (like every British person does) and there was an article about a new craze in which people (mainly girls) take secret photos of hot people (mainly men) on the tube/subway and post the images online for people to rate! Aside from the fact it's a blatant invasion of privacy and that the whole thing is actually quite crude: the concept is hilarious -Tubecrush and Subwaycrush.

Jumpers and miniskirts is a look I can see becoming a trend; and I would like a pair of wool leggings to wear with a wool jumper and heels.

The pink blazer and 3/4 length leather trousers look is a look you either hate or love and I love it. I think knee-length boots can look great when worn well and when the boots are of a good quality; I see too many middle aged women in bad knee-length boots that I feel totally put off.

Donna Karen Fall 2011: Everything in this collection screams 'luxury'; from the delicate silks to the soft leather. Net-a-porter's summer looks are perfect!

The skirt in the first look is very similar to the skirt I posted a while ago, except mine is a bit shorter and obviously the pattern is different. What I like most about the looks is the colours, normally when people think of dressing smart they think of dull colours and unflattering clothes but these looks disprove that preconceived notion.

I'd like to think as I get older I won't lose the desire to infuse fashion with practicability and hopefully when I am working in the corporate world I can show that interest within the boundaries of appropriateness. On the subject of the corporate world, I don't know about anyone else but I've loved watching The Apprentice! My favourite person was Susan, but I strongly thought Helen would win but I'm not disappointed with Tom having won. :)

I think Kate Middleton's drastic drop in weight prior to her wedding and after her wedding is disappointing not least because of how quick she lost the weight, but more so because a lot of young girls look up to her. Having said that, I think she is a great ambassador for Britain and I have liked some of her simple looks though most of them age her by ten years. I think Emma Watson is the perfect role model for young girls: I can't begin to imagine how much pressure she must be faced with to be stick thin.

The skirt which sits on my waist, has a busy black and white pattern, is light and summer perfect plus it has two large pockets. The main reason for purchasing the above white shirt was because of how it conceals the front buttons as you can slightly tell, anyway I'm thinking about wearing it for my graduation ceremony. The out of focus image of a watch underneath the skirt is also a recent purchase and from Muji. I like the fact it's sleek and minimal i.e. not blingy.

P.S: I had ironed the above shirt but then decided to take it with me to Nottingham hence the creases. When it was ironed my mother kept asking me whether I had ironed it or not, that she's now insisting on ironing it herself if I decide to wear it for my graduation ceremony!

I love this collection! It's the small bit of bold colour in the array of pattern, the fit of the clothes and the fashionable chic vibe the looks give off.

There something in all these looks that I really like and I think they can be recreated at an affordable price. I can imagine important and influential women in the fashion industry being photographed at shows in the above looks, I can also see Zara going for simpler looks in their lookbook.

I really like how subtle the designer (Sarah Burton) behind Alexander McQueen's resort 2012 collection has kept the classic safari park look. The classic combination of white, camel and brown has been elegantly put together and the animal print bag cements the whole safari park, travel look. The look underneath the Amica magazine cover shows how simple it is to turn a white dress into a sophisticated travel look and I love the combination of grey and camel in the look adjacent to it. I have to also add that the not-so tight bun in the model's hair adds an element of casualness to the quite sophisticated looks which is well thought out: I really like the collection.

Sorry for the absent blogging, I've just been a bit busy. For the past few days my style has just been wearing different scarves with my three-quarter sleeve blazer, jeans and my black suede flats from Gap.

Look away if you don't like stripes and try to avoid looking at the Olsen's 2012 resort collection for The Row.

Can you ever have too many variations of stripes in a single look? Well, the Olsens have put that question to the test and I think they have just about pulled it off. I say just about because most of the looks remind me of pajamas but I like the above two stripe dominated looks from the collection. I have to also mention, I really like the stripy slouchy pullover in the above street style image and how she has paired her look with red shoes (which I'm not fond of) that add character to the look.

The Row's 2012 resort collection has also made me drawn to the colour mint, particularly because of this look.

It was her only secret.

I went to my graduation ball this week, I'll post an image of the dress I wore when I get a chance to. The dress received a lot of compliments from people I knew and didn't know (which is a great combination). So having attempted to dance for hours in the slightly heavy silk dress and heels (it was a long dress by the way), I'm appreciating the ability to mindlessly throw on a combination of clothes to create a casual practical look, though I don't think I do it as effortlessly chic as the above street style looks. I think it's because I'm bored with my wardrobe...

I like shoes just as much as I like bags. I like the different colours, shapes, materials and sizes they come in.

I particularly like how shoes and bags can alter your view on a look. All the bags pictured in the above street style images add an admirable certain 'je ne sais quoi' (a quality that is difficult to describe) to their looks.

The first black bag on the right is by Marc B and can be found on Topshop's website; and the bag underneath it which is available in a cream colour, is from Zara.

The above look by Zara is my current favourite summer look with the miniskirt that I mentioned it in a previous post.

If you're not great with bold block colours like me, just keep it simple and basic by combining it with a white blouse/shirt.

The black jeans don't really fit in with this collage but I do like her simple look, plus you could just imagine her jeans were a bold colour... :)

Ultimately, beauty is subjective. I was not only mesmerised by Chelsea Zalophany's Isabel Marant shoes (pictured above), but her book case was intriguing. I managed to spot a few novels that I've read, particularly from her collection of Salinger novellas.
